Marta has over 30 years of experience representing developers, landlords and tenants in commercial real estate leasing matters and has acted for some of Canada's leading developers. Marta has joined BLG’s National Leasing Centre and her practice will be primarily focused on this team.

Marta assists national clients across a broad range of industries with:

  • commercial leasing
  • construction contracts
  • purchase and sale of commercial real estate
  • financing of office, industrial, retail and mixed-use commercial property

Marta joined the firm having practiced commercial leasing, real estate and construction law with a leading mid-sized firm in Toronto, representing local and national clients.

Prior to that, Marta spent over 13 years as VP, National Legal Affairs at First Capital Realty, one of Canada’s largest shopping centre developers. She was responsible for all legal aspects of the company’s business operations, from acquisition, development, construction, leasing and property management, co-ownership and development management agreements.

Marta has assisted clients in the negotiation of CCDC and non-CCDC contracts for residential and commercial projects, and in the preparation of precedent construction contracts for Ontario condominium developments.

Experience

  • Acted on First Capital’s most complex development and leasing projects, including Liberty Village and Yorkville in Toronto, Mont Royal and the Brewery in Calgary, Semiahmoo in B.C. and Griffintown in Montreal.
  • Acted for landlords and tenants in the negotiation of commercial real estate and commercial leasing projects (including retail, office and industrial leases).
  • Advised tenants and landlords with respect to the interpretation and enforcement of commercial leases, with an emphasis on dispute resolution.
  • Acted for owners and condominium developers on construction contracts and disputes.
