Cecilia has extensive experience representing clients in complex specialized disputes.
Cecilia’s practice focuses on speciality insurance defence and coverage disputes. She regularly provides global and domestic insurers with complex coverage advice and defends coverage actions pertaining to commercial general liability, course of construction/builders risk, wrap-up liability, errors and omissions, environment impairment liability and commercial property policies.
Cecilia’s defence practice includes construction, professional liability, employment and health law.
Cecilia represents various project participants in complex, mutli-party construction disputes including design professionals, contractors, sub-trades and developers.
Cecilia has represented health care professionals for over 18 years in regulatory and civil proceedings, including physicians and surgeons and various paramedical professionals.
Cecilia advises and provides advice and defence to professionals as well as private and public entities in relation to allegations of harassment, discrimination and sexual abuse. In this role, Cecilia has represented national organizations, including charities and sports associations.
With 20 years experience as a defence dispute lawyer, Cecilia brings trial experience and extensive experience in mediations, arbitrations and other complex settlement negotiations resulting in positive outcomes for her clients. Cecilia brings pragmatism and ‘out of the box’ thinking to help her clients achieve good outcomes. She is the first lawyer in Canada to successfully argue a summary dismissal of a negligence claim on the basis that an “e-waiver” was enforceable.
Prior to joining BLG, Cecilia gained extensive experience as a disputes lawyer at national and regional firms. Cecilia was the Managing Partner of the Calgary office at a national specialty insurance firm for a number of years immediately prior to joining BLG.
