As a Summer Law Student, Shakiba is assisting lawyers on a wide variety of tasks within our Business and Disputes groups.
Prior to attending law school, Shakiba worked at a federal law enforcement agency where she specialized in inadmissibility issues for foreign nationals involved in organized crime, terrorism, and human trafficking. She received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia. During her time at UBC, she organized the Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Conference and nwHacks Vancouver - the biggest computer science hackathon in Western Canada. In her final year, she served as a nuclear research analyst, and her work was published in the Bulletin for Atomic Scientists. In law school, she works with the Business Law Association and founded UVic’s Middle Eastern Law Student Association.
Shakiba joined BLG because of its stellar reputation for providing legal services and its commitment to diversity and fairness. At BLG, she discovered a welcoming and supportive atmosphere where colleagues freely shared their expertise and supported one another.
In her spare time, Shakiba curates her food blog uncovering Vancouver’s hidden gems. She enjoys Vipassana meditation and has completed several 10-day silent retreats. She also enjoys reading, particularly books on political philosophy, nuclear governance, and history.
Shakiba holds a first dan black belt in traditional Shotokan Karate. She has engaged as both an athlete and a coach, and has received numerous awards for her leadership and mentorship of young students.
