Gillian specializes in providing legal advice to organizations in the education and not-for-profit sectors. She has extensive experience advocating for clients in a variety of legal settings, including courts, Human Rights and other administrative Tribunals, and arbitration and mediation environments.
Gillian's practice includes advising on general corporate matters, governance, employee and student discipline, investigations, and special education, developing effective policy frameworks, and providing critical legal guidance to organizations navigating complex regulatory landscapes. Where rights or interests conflict, Gillian works with her clients to find strategic solutions that support long term working relationships.
Gillian has produced numerous articles and webinars on topics that support her clients’ operational decision-making, and in 2018 co-authored “An Educator's Guide to Internet and Social Media Law in the Classroom.”
Gillian’s practice is informed by experience as a lawyer in small and remote communities, a family law practitioner, and staff lawyer for a community legal aid clinic. Gillian served for six years as a school board Trustee, two of which were as board chair. She is known for her public policy work and her commitment to social justice.
