Julia specializes in resolving complex disputes in construction, insurance and commercial litigation matters. She brings expeditious resolution to ensure the best outcomes for her clients.

Julia is experienced in successfully defending clients in trials, including jury trials. She has brought favourable resolutions for her clients in mediations and alternative dispute resolutions. She is an experienced litigator who provides strategic advice to clients on highly complex files and major claims. She has represented a range of clients in various industries, including major construction companies, large insurance corporations, major manufacturers including manufacturers of automotive industry, sports equipment and heavy machinery, as well as various commercial businesses and individuals.

Although Julia pushes for a resolution, as an advocate she is always prepared to proceed to trial when it is in the best interest of her client. Julia has successfully represented clients at all levels of the litigation.

Julia is the Chair of the Canadian Bar Association Insurance Section in B.C., and the Secretary of The Advocates’ Society Insurance Group.

Experience

  • McCrory v. Komar – co-counsel for the defendant in a 13 day jury trial with various interlocutory applications during trial including adverse inference for not calling own experts, admissibility of hearsay evidence in expert reports, admissibility of inflammatory evidence and adding the issue of mitigation in the jury charge. Obtained jury verdict in favour of the defendant.
  • Baker v. Surerus – co-counsel for the defendant in a 20 day jury trial. Settlement achieved during trial.
  • Johnston v. Leginus – defended and successfully obtained order for application to compel attendance at an independent examination.
  • Rhodes v. Ma – defended and successfully obtained order for application to compel attendance at an independent examination.
  • Bennis v. Santos-Marchant – defended and successfully obtained order for application to compel attendance at an independent examination.
  • Defended and successfully resolved various claims, at mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
