Robyn’s practice focuses on health and senior living and housing law. She acts as counsel for hospitals and their staff, retirement communities and long-term care homes in matters such as: 

  • crisis and risk management
  • statutory interpretation and compliance
  • administrative and regulatory matters
  • privacy, disclosure and management of patient/resident complaints
  • policy development and implementation
  • residential tenancy disputes
  • bylaw revision and interpretation
  • consent and capacity issues 
She manages complex medical malpractice actions on behalf of hospitals.  
A portion of her practice is also devoted to representing regulated healthcare providers such as dentists, nurses, social workers, etc., before their respective Colleges in the course of responding to complaints made against them and in the review of decisions before the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board.

Experience

  • Acts as general counsel to healthcare organizations, including hospitals, retirement communities and long-term care homes in relation to various day-to-day issues, including risk management and patient/resident safety, crisis and risk management, privacy, disclosure, policy development and implementation, residential tenancy and operations.
  • Advises healthcare clients noted above on the application and interpretation of numerous statues.
  • Represents regulated healthcare providers such as dentists and nurses before their governing administrative bodies (i.e., Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario and College of Nurses of Ontario) in the course of responding to complaints against them, and in the review of complaints decisions before Health Professionals Appeal and Review Board.
  • Provides advice to hospitals on corporate matters such as bylaws and contractual relationships, including drafting and interpretation.
  • Manages complex medical malpractice actions for hospitals including overseeing and conducting detailed investigations, assessing exposure and all steps in a lawsuit.
  • Provides advice to healthcare facilities on the management of relationships and issues with professional staff including physicians and other regulated healthcare providers.
  • Represents hospital staff and physicians before the Consent and Capacity Board, for example in relation to findings of incapacity to consent to treatment.
  • Provides advice on the management of investigations by the Coroner, and acts as counsel to hospitals and their employees at Coroner's inquests.
