Navigating the legal framework for mental health care can be complicated for health practitioners, patients, families, and those who support them. Since 2009, BLG has partnered with the Ontario Hospital Association to prepare the OHA Mental Health Toolkit for frontline mental health care providers. This resource provides a general understanding of mental health law issues in several key areas, such as consent to treatment, involuntary admission, community treatment orders, the detention and supervision of mentally disordered criminal offenders, along with an overview of the provincial and federal legislation that governs the provision of mental health care in Ontario.
The fourth edition of this guide – authored by Katharine Byrick and Barbara Walker-Renshaw – is now available!
