BLG's Race Action Committee is excited to host a panel discussion, followed by a cocktail reception, for racialized in-house legal counsel (and other similar roles, such as in compliance, risk management, corporate secretaries, regulatory affairs, DEI, operations, etc.) on the evening of Tuesday November 5, 2024. Our speakers will cover contemporary trends and DEI considerations relevant for in-house legal counsel, including Artificial Intelligence and Indigenous Legal Issues.
Speakers:
Lisa Chamandy, BLG's Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, will discuss the key considerations businesses, and their legal departments, should keep in mind when exploring AI-related business opportunities, risk mitigation, technology implementation, education and adoption, and data management. Further, Lisa will delve into the risks that biased AI tools can pose to users, specifically from the perspective of equity, diversity and inclusion.
Chris Roine is a corporate lawyer at BLG whose practice focuses on Indigenous law in British Columbia. Chris will discuss recent trends and developments in respect of Indigenous legal issues and the potential impacts of such developments on various business sectors. Chris’s presentation will also discuss the potential impact of the 2024 provincial election on the provincial regulatory framework of Indigenous law and its impact on Indigenous groups and their business participation.
