François Joli-Coeur and Vinay Desai join our Privacy and Data Protection practice group
BLG is delighted to have François Joli-Coeur and Vinay Desai join our Privacy and Data Protection practice group. They will be advising clients from various sectors on a wide range of issues, including privacy and anti-spam, information technology, intellectual property, telecommunications, advertising, consumer protection, cybersecurity issues and data breach management.
François Joli-Coeur received a bachelor's degrees in civil law from University of Montréal and a Master of Laws degree from University of California, Berkeley with a specialization in technology law. He also more recently received a graduate diploma in e-business (DESS) from HEC Montréal. Prior to joining the firm, François worked for a Canadian leader in telecommunications, entertainment, news, media and culture, where he took part in telecommunications and broadcasting proceedings before the CRTC, supported the marketing, technology and operation departments with compliance issues, and with the preparation and negotiation of commercial agreements. François has authored and contributed to various publications pertaining to privacy, technology and copyright law. He previously acted as associate editor for the Berkeley Technology Law Journal and has passed the California bar examination. François is fluent in French and English.
Vinay Desai previously worked for another large firm where he acquired significant expertise in Intellectual Property matters involving trademarks, copyrights and domain names. He has authored or contributed to various publications pertaining to privacy, anti-spam and e-commerce law and has presented on ethics issues and entertainment through the McGill Business Law Association. Vinay received his bachelor's degrees in civil law and common law from University of Montréal. He also completed a semester abroad at the Université de Lyon II, in France, in 2013. He is licensed to practice law in Québec and Ontario. He is fluent in French, English and Gujarati.
