Northland Power leads development of the 250 MW Oneida battery storage project

BLG represented Northland Power Inc. and its affiliates on the acquisition, development, construction, debt and equity financing of the $750 million, 250 MW Oneida battery storage project, a first of its kind utility scale lithium-ion battery storage project in Canada. The Oneida battery storage project represents Northland Power’s first strategic investment in battery energy storage. Participants in the project include NRStor Inc., the Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation, Aecon Utilities, a division of Aecon Group and the Canada Infrastructure Bank. BLG acted for Northland Power on all aspects of the project, including corporate structuring, power purchase agreement, real property, financing, indigenous matters, energy regulatory, interconnection, battery supply contract as well as the engineering, procurement and construction contract.
