André Royer  


Executive Summary

Mr. Royer is the National Leader of the Labour and Employment Group. He has over 25 years of experience in the fields of labour and employment law, human rights, as well as administrative law.

He advises his clients on legislation governing employment and collective labour agreements and represents them before the Commission des relations du travail and grievance arbitrators. He also negotiates collective agreements. In occupational health and safety matters, André pleads before the Commission des lésions professionnelles and, in penal cases, before the Criminal and Penal Division of the Court of Québec. He also gives advice on human rights law and the protection of privacy in the workplace.

In addition, he gives practical advice to his clients on risk management in disputes and the strategic settlement of legal issues.

André Royer has filled a number of senior management positions in our firm and is currently a member of the Management Committee of our Montréal office.

He is also an active member of our Fraud Group.

Representative Work

Mr. Royer advises and represents employers on all questions relating to labour relations, as well as with respect to occupational health and safety disputes, employment contracts and collective labour agreements;  he offers his services for any issue dealing with legislation affecting labour relations.

More particularly, André acts for employers and pleads before civil courts and judicial and administrative tribunals in cases dealing with issues of unlawful dismissal, conditions of employment, occupational health and safety, industrial accidents and occupational diseases, as well as human rights. He has also negotiated collective agreements and acts as management's counsel in grievance arbitrations..

Finally, Mr. Royer advises employers on new statutes and the training of management personnel on the preparation of cases concerning occupational health and safety, disciplinary measures and all other matters having to do with labour relations.

Employment Law

  • Acts as advisor, does mediation/conciliation and pleads regularly before the Commission des relations du travail on complaints filed under the Labour Standards Act.
  • Practises before civil courts, in both first instance and in appeal.

Labour Relations

  • Negotiates collective agreements
  • Pleads grievances and also pleads before civil courts in judicial review proceedings.

Occupational Injuries

  • Practises before the Commission des lésions professionnelles in matters relating to compensation, classification and financing.
  • Pleads penal complaints before the Criminal and Penal Division of the Court of Québec.

Commercial Operations

  • Advises contracting parties on issues related to manpower and employment in commercial operations.

  • Mr. Royer has lectured on various subjects connected with labour law and has written articles on different labour and employment law issues.

  • Author of several articles for CCH Canadian Limited (Focus on Employment and Equality Rights).
  • Co-author of a book published by Wilson and Lafleur on La Loi sur les normes du travail au Québec.
