Free Speech on University and College Campuses in Ontario: ​Policies Now Mandated by January 1, 2019

  The Ontario government has indicated that colleges and universities in the province will have until January 1, 2019 "to develop, implement and comply with a free speech policy that meets a minimum standard prescribed by the government and based on best practices from around the world. The policy will not only protect free speech but ensure that hate speech, discrimination and other illegal forms of speech are not allowed on campus."  There will be minimum content requirements, reporting requirements, and potential funding consequences if requirements are not met.
