BLG is pleased to announce the publication of the annual Mari-Times Newsletter summarizing Canadian legal developments within the maritime industry over the past year. Download the PDF below for in-depth analyses of relevant changes in policy, legislation, regulations, and case law.
In Canada, we now have a more activist government when it comes to legislative review and change. With increased scrutiny on the maritime industry in respect of environmental and sustainability concerns, the growing interest in autonomous vehicles in the transportation sector, and developments in the United States and Europe affecting trade and commerce globally, the sector is undergoing constant change. The recent insolvencies of established players such as Hanjin and Icecorp Logistics, and the resulting disruptions which they generated, were given much attention in the media as was the ongoing consolidation in the under-pressure container sector in particular. The maritime industry will continue to evolve and generate both disruptions and opportunities.
Apart from providing you with a succinct summary of the year that was, we trust that our current issue of Mari-Times will provide you with a glimpse of the kind of developments we might see in the years to come.
