Toronto (September 29, 2022) – Borden Ladner Gervais is contributing to emergency relief and longer-term rebuilding in the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona with a $25,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross. Individual firm members are also being encouraged to add what they can to the cause.
“Our hearts are with the people of Eastern Canada right now,” says John Murphy, National Managing Partner and CEO. “The photos we’re seeing of the destruction only tell part of the story. This devastating storm affected many people’s lives, homes, memories, livelihoods and security. Our donation to the Canadian Red Cross is a gesture from us as Canada’s Law Firm to our fellow Canadians in the East.”
Partner Laurie Goldbach was in Halifax in the immediate aftermath of the hurricane, in advance of a firm event. “Everywhere we went, people asked if we had power and if we were okay,” she says. “The friendly nature of Nova Scotians shines even through a dark storm.”
The federal government is matching all donations to the Red Cross’ Hurricane Fiona in Canada appeal made before Oct. 23, 2022.
