Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is pleased to announce the appointment of Joel Jones as Chair of the Partnership Board, effective July 1, 2022.
BLG’s Partnership Board provides overall direction, oversight and governance for the firm. The board is made up of elected regional representatives of partners from each of the firm’s offices located in Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.
Joel is recognized as a leading corporate lawyer in Canada and has been a member of the Partnership Board since 2017. While contributing to the firm in his new leadership role, Joel will also continue with his corporate commercial practice.
Joel succeeds Shelley-Mae Mitchell, who will continue her nationally-recognized practice within the Labour & Employment Group in the Vancouver office.
BLG's National Managing Partner and CEO, John Murphy, said “On behalf of all members of the firm, I wish to congratulate Joel on his new role and thank Shelley-Mae for her six years of service on the Partnership Board, two of which were as Chair. Shelley-Mae has been a champion of the Firm’s diversity and inclusion efforts throughout her time on the Board. In addition, her leadership and governance contributions have been invaluable, particularly as we navigated the pandemic.”
“As incoming Chair, I am very excited to work with our outstanding leadership team and partners nationally to guide the firm to new heights through our ongoing evolution,” said Joel Jones. “Our goal is to position BLG for the future in order to best serve our clients in Canada and abroad, and maintain our position as Canada’s Law Firm.”
With this new appointment, the BLG team will continue to build its strong market position by delivering exceptional client service and providing high-value legal advice.
