Toronto (March 12, 2019) — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) welcomes Cherie Brant, who joins the firm’s Indigenous Law Group in Toronto today. Cherie provides strategic counsel to First Nations clients and organizations from a wide variety of sectors seeking to fulfill their business objectives and partner together to develop projects.
"Cherie is an invaluable asset to any project, as she brings a deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges that both Indigenous people and industry proponents face in carrying out resource, infrastructure and economic development in Canada," said Frank Callaghan, national group head of BLG’s Corporate and Capital Markets Group.
Prior to joining BLG, Cherie was a partner in the Toronto office of a U.S.-based firm and was the chair of the Native American and Canadian Indigenous Law Practice Group. In 2018, Cherie was appointed to the Board of Directors of Hydro One Limited. She also serves as a director on the Anishnawbe Health Foundation, which is involved in a capital campaign to build a Community Hub and Indigenous Medicine Health Care Centre in downtown Toronto. She is a member of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte and has family from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory on Manitoulin Island.
BLG’s Indigenous Law Group is made up of lawyers from across Canada, who have extensive experience in all facets of Indigenous law. We offer clients a broad range of services — from corporate/commercial and administrative/regulatory to general advice and issues unique to this area of the law.
