The Honourable Thomas Albert Cromwell C.C. selected as one of the Most Influential Lawyers in Canada.
Vancouver (August 7, 2018) — As Canada’s largest law firm with strong local ties, BLG is pleased to celebrate a Canadian innovator and influencer, senior counsel, The Honourable Thomas Albert Cromwell C.C., who has been named among Canadian Lawyer’s Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in Canada in the Changemaker category.
There are few lawyers that have made as great an impact on the legal landscape as Thomas, who served as a judge of the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal before taking his seat on the Supreme Court of Canada from December 2008 to September 2016. For the past ten years, Thomas has chaired the Chief Justice of Canada’s Action Committee on Access to Justice in Civil and Family Matters. He has continued in this role with the strong support of the firm since joining BLG in 2017 as senior counsel in our Vancouver and Ottawa offices.
Thomas is the first recipient of the Louis St Laurent Award of Excellence from the Canadian Bar Association. In January, he was appointed as a Companion of the Order of Canada, the highest honour of the Order of Canada, for his determined advocacy to improve access to justice for all Canadians.
Recently, he provided strategic advice to members of the firm on some of the most high-profile and precedent-setting cases before the Supreme Court and the British Columbia Court of Appeal. He is also active as a disputes mediator, particularly in the public sector. His work continues to influence major decisions within the Canadian legal community.
This is the 9th annual list of the Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in Canada compiled by Canadian Lawyer with well over 10,000 individuals taking part in the voting process to determine the members of this exclusive list.
