BLG partners named among Canada's most influential lawyers

Canadian Lawyer Recognizes the Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers of 2017

Toronto (August 8, 2017)  — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is pleased to announce that three of its partners, André Dufour, Sharon Vogel and Bruce Reynolds, FCIArb., have been named among the Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers of 2017 by Canadian Lawyer magazine.

The annual list recognizes leaders in the Canadian justice system and legal profession. Mr. Dufour was included in the Corporate-Commercial category and Ms. Vogel and Mr. Reynolds were included in the Changemakers category. This recognition showcases their commitment not only to client service, but to making an impact on the Canadian legal landscape.

Mr. Dufour was recently appointed Regional Managing Partner of BLG's Montréal office. A partner in the firm's Corporate Commercial Group, Mr. Dufour has been involved in a broad range of commercial transactions, with a particular emphasis on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, including the recent acquisition by Famar S.A. of operations of Bayer in the Province of Québec. Mr. Dufour also exemplifies outstanding leadership within the community, acting as a member of the Board and Executive Committee of the Léger Foundation, the Board of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts Foundation, the Acquisition Committee (Canadian Art) of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Board of the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital Foundation, and the Board of the Marie Chouinard Dance Company.

Ms. Vogel is the National Leader of BLG's Construction Group and Mr. Reynolds is the Chair of the International Construction Projects Group. The duo recently acted as co-counsel for the Ontario Government in conducting an independent expert review of Ontario's Construction Lien Act . The Ontario government is modernizing its legislation based on the changes recommended in the Report prepared by Mr. Reynolds and Ms. Vogel entitled "Striking the Balance". Bill 142 was introduced in the Ontario Legislature in May 2017 and will modernize the existing Act, introduce prompt payment in Ontario, and implement adjudication as an expeditious dispute resolution mechanism.

The Canadian Lawyer Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers, now in its 9th year, honours select members of the country's legal community in five categories: Changemakers; Government/Non-Profits/Associations; Criminal/Human Rights Law; Corporate-Commercial; and Corporate Counsel. To determine the Top 25 each year, Canadian Lawyer conducts a public call for nominations, and those shortlisted by the editorial panel are voted on by readers through an online poll. The final list of 25 is based on that poll with the input of the Canadian Lawyer editorial panel.
