Montréal, February 3, 2017 — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is delighted to announce that Éloïse Gratton has been appointed a member of the Board of Directors of the Société québécoise d'information juridique (SOQUIJ). Her appointment, for a five-year term, was approved by the Cabinet of the Government of Québec on January 25.
Ms. Gratton, a partner in BLG's Montréal office, and National Co-Leader of the firm's Privacy and Data Protection Group, ranks among the leading experts in Canada in the law of protection of privacy. The largest Canadian corporations seek her advice, as do both federal and provincial privacy commissioners and the Government of Canada. The Supreme Court of Canada has cited two of her works on the protection of privacy, in landmark decisions. She also acts regularly as a speaker at national and international conferences dealing with privacy legislation.
Ms. Gratton is one of the members of the Board of Directors appointed following consultation with the Barreau du Québec, which demonstrates the profound respect she inspires within the legal community. She will be joining a group of 12 highly esteemed individuals, including a number of judges, lawyers and university professors, who will be reflecting on the organization's strategic planning.
SOQUIJ's mission is to promote legal research, and to publish and disseminate legal information, in order to improve both its quality and its accessibility, for the benefit of the community as a whole. Among other activities, SOQUIJ publishes and disseminates the judgments of courts and administrative tribunals in Québec via its website.
