Bradon advises and represents clients on all manner of commercial and civil litigation, administrative and regulatory proceedings, and appeals. His disputes practice includes:

  • Oil and gas industry disputes and regulation, including at the provincial and federal levels;
  • Electricity regulation, including advising and representing power generators and distribution and transmission facility owners before federal and provincial regulators;
  • Environmental matters, including regulatory prevention and compliance;
  • Shareholder disputes;
  • Corporate governance and officer and director liability;
  • Commercial leasing disputes;
  • Professional standards and liability;
  • Bankruptcy and insolvency; and
  • Intellectual property, including patent and trademark claims and breaches of confidentiality.

Bradon has successfully represented clients at all levels of Court in Alberta, the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of Canada (leave to appeal), the Alberta Utilities Commission, the Canada Energy Regulator (and its predecessor, the National Energy Board), the Alberta Energy Regulator, and numerous other administrative bodies

  • Reported Court Decisions:
    • Ball v 1979927 Alberta Ltd, 2024 ABKB 229, involving (among other things) the successful striking of a claim for abuse of process
    • Dugandzic v Alberta (Law Enforcement Review Board), 2024 ABCA 125, a leave to appeal decision relating to a complaint under the Police Act
    • Signalta Resources Limited v Canadian Natural Resources Limited, 2024 ABKB 115, where BLG obtained a substantial percentage-based costs award following success at trial (currently under appeal)
    • Signalta Resources Limited v Alberta Balancing Pool, 2022 ABCA 298, 2022 ABQB 190, and 2021 ABQB 618, where the plaintiff sought recognition of a new duty of care in tort
    • Edmonton River Valley Conservation Coalition Society v Council of the City of Edmonton, 2022 ABQB 11 and 2022 ABQB 263, representing a municipal utility in successfully responding to an application to judicially review a City Council decision, with costs in favour of the utility
    • Pelletier (Re), 2021 ABCA 264, 2020 ABCA 450, 2020 ABQB 540, and Pacer Holdings Construction Corporation v Pelletier, 2020 ABCA 379, where BLG successfully obtained recognition of foreign bankruptcy and asset freezing orders in Alberta, upheld on appeal
    • Paragon Capital Corporation Ltd v Starke Dominion Ltd, 2020 ABCA 216, an appeal relating to the ability of counsel under the Rules of Court to register charging orders against land for unpaid fees
    • Packers Plus Energy Services Inc v Essential Energy Services Ltd, 2019 FCA 96, where BLG successfully responded to an appeal of a patent infringement trial decision
    • Fort Hills Energy LP v Jotun A/S, 2019 ABQB 237, involving the jurisdiction of the Alberta Court over foreign companies involved in a significant energy infrastructure project in Alberta;
    • PWP Xerion Holdings III LLC v Binnion, 2018 ABCA 421, where BLG successfully obtained a stay pending the appeal of an order relating to letters rogatory requesting the testimony of Alberta companies and residents for the purposes of foreign proceedings (later resolved without appeal);
    • Petz v Duguay, 2018 ABCA 29, where BLG successfully responded to an appeal of a trial decision and costs decision involving a motor vehicle injury and chronic pain claim
