We have experience with both regional and local tier municipalities as well as the various available municipal insurance arrangements. We are familiar with the coverage issues and self-insured retentions that relate to these arrangements. More than 20 of our lawyers from both our Toronto and Ottawa offices practise predominantly in the municipal liability field and form our Municipal Liability Group. Our lawyers have extensive trial and appellate experience defending municipalities. We also regularly act as counsel at mediations and arbitrations for our municipal clients. We have experience representing municipalities at coroners' inquests, administrative and Human Rights tribunals and in defence of class actions. We ensure client confidence in the manner in which we present their defences, especially in matters of significant public and media interest. We can also help manage press inquiries. We are mindful of the wide-ranging social, policy and financial impact of certain claims, and we have developed strategies to assist municipalities in responding to the various issues that can arise from a given claim.
