Ian practices commercial real estate law, with a focus on acquisitions and sales, commercial leasing, financing and development.
Ian acts for a wide variety of clients, including real estate owners, investors, developers and financial institutions. His practice includes:
- Structuring real estate investments and negotiating and drafting joint venture documents, including co-ownership agreements and management agreements
- Negotiating and drafting purchase and sale agreements, advising on due diligence issues and undertaking closing matters
- Acting for landlords and tenants in drafting and reviewing commercial leases for retail, office and industrial properties
- Acting for lenders and borrowers with respect to real estate financings, including acquisition financing, development and construction financing, deposit protection insurance facilities and term financing
- Advising with respect to subdivision, rezoning and other municipal planning matters
- Advising with respect to matters relating to the Strata Property Act, the Real Estate Development Marketing Act and the Land Owner Transparency Act
Ian has previously been general counsel for a privately held real estate investment and development company active in Canada and the United States, overseeing its legal affairs and working with executives to develop and implement investment, mortgage lending and property development decisions. Ian also previously practiced commercial real estate law with a leading global law firm based in New York.
