Rob Blackstein  

Rob Blackstein is partner in our Electricity Markets Group in the Toronto office. Rob is a seasoned business and transactional lawyer who has expertise in both domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, financings, private equity, and venture capital.

In the energy sector, Rob has worked on matters involving generation (solar, wind, hydro, gas and nuclear), transmission and distribution, as well as for investors, lenders, retailers, marketers and other industry participants.

Rob has advised corporations, investment funds and other clients across a range of sectors, including energy and infrastructure, and has acted on a number of significant transactions within those sectors.

Rob has also acted on the formation and structuring of various project and investment vehicles, including energy and infrastructure funds, and has represented fund sponsors and institutional investors in connection with such transactions.

• Represented generators (solar, wind, hydro, gas and nuclear), local distribution companies, investors, lenders, retailers, marketers and other industry participants on a broad range of corporate, transactional and commercial matters within the electricity sector.
• Acted on the formation and subsequent closings of various energy and infrastructure funds for both fund sponsors and investors.
• Acted on the formation of various special purpose vehicles and other project related matters and negotiated, drafted and advised on limited partnership agreements and shareholder agreements, EPC and O&M agreements and power purchase agreements (e.g. FIT contracts).
• Advises boards and shareholders with respect to corporate governance matters.
• Represented buyers and sellers on wide range of mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, reorganizations and financings.
• Represented equity sponsors and other clients on the closing of various P3 infrastructure projects as well as secondary market transactions, including transportation (toll roads, rail and ports), social infrastructure (courthouses, hospitals, detention centres, and water treatment facilities), laboratories and sports facilities.

Rob has presented numerous client seminars and webinars on topics related to the energy sector. Rob has also written numerous client bulletins, newsletters and updates on various electricity-related matters.
