Executive Summary

Jeff Talbot practices in banking and financial services as well as in commercial real estate law. He represents banks and other financial institutions as well as borrowers in connection with the implementation of credit facilities and the taking of security interests, in the context of all types of financings, including corporate financing, project financing, syndicated and cross-border loans, as well as a wide range of real estate and construction financings.

Jeff also advises clients regarding the acquisition, divestiture and transfer of immovable property. In addition, he advises both tenants and owners in respect of commercial leasing for all types of buildings, including industrial and office buildings, as well as shopping centres. He also advises clients regarding co-ownership, emphyteusis, servitudes and land transfer duties.

Prior to joining the BLG team, Jeff practised in another national firm and clerked for a judge of the Superior Court of Québec. In addition, he was a member of the research team for the Commission of Inquiry on the Awarding and Management of Public Contracts in the Construction Industry (Charbonneau Commission).

Jeff speaks French and English fluently.

Representative Work

  • Represented a Canadian oil major company in a $2.8 billion dollar transaction concerning the sale of its service stations to five different buyers in Canada, in respect of its Québec assets.
  • Represented a large chemical manufacturer in the decontamination and sale of properties extending of over some 60 hectares in the Montréal area.
  • Advised lenders with respect to the real estate aspects of the financing of major wind farm projects in Québec.
  • Advised lenders in several acquisition, sale and development projects of all kinds, including residential and commercial projects.
