Murray B. Shopiro  

Murray Shopiro is a senior counsel in the Commercial Real Estate Group at the Toronto office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. He focuses on commercial transactions, with an emphasis on real estate based transactions. His practice also encompasses public-private projects, real estate development, purchases and sales, financing, leasing and restructuring. Murray is a member of the Firm's National Commercial Real Estate Leasing Group.

• Advises various corporate and institutional tenants respecting space requirements, including purchase, lease and sale/leaseback, and including head office, branch office, distribution and other programs.
• Advises various developers respecting a variety of real estate developments including mixed-use and phased condominium developments, residential subdivisions, business parks and office complexes.
• Advises various developers and owners respecting a variety of ground lease transactions, standard form office and industrial leases, as well as specific lease negotiation on behalf of various landlords and tenants.
• Advises various municipalities respecting municipal projects.
• Advises respecting structuring and implementation of various quasi-public developments and public/private enterprises.
• Advises various lender clients extensively in various types of project and structured finance transactions, including condominium, office, residential subdivision, business parks, shopping centre and other real estate assets.
• Advises various lender clients respecting strategic approaches to problematic loans, including restructuring, realizations, additional security negotiations, standstill arrangements and related issues.
• Advises various developers and other joint venturers respecting partnership, co-tenancy, joint venture and other legal structures respecting joint real estate development.
• Advises respecting structuring of REITs, real estate syndicates and lending syndicates.
• Advises real estate investors making Canadian real estate investments.
