Executive Summary

Laura Robinson is an associate in the Ottawa office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, practicing in the Commercial Litigation Group.

Her litigation practice includes commercial cases and administrative law matters. Laura has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario, as well as administrative tribunals including the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board and the Consent and Capacity Board. She has also acted as both the prosecution and defence counsel at regulatory health college discipline proceedings. In 2018, Laura appeared as Commission Counsel at the Long-Term Care Homes Public Inquiry.

Prior to joining BLG in 2019, Laura practiced at a leading litigation firm in Toronto.

Representative Work

  • Acted for a professional in a confidential arbitration pertaining to the distribution of profits pursuant to a partnership agreement.
  • Acted for a financial services company in a dispute relating to the financing of a hotel construction project.
  • Acted for individual and corporate clients on motions for contempt orders and subsequent appellate proceedings.
  • Prosecuted allegations of professional misconduct by practitioners in disciplinary proceedings, including allegations of sexual abuse, breaches of standards of practice, and fraud.
  • Defended professionals in disciplinary proceedings, including in respect of allegations of sexual abuse and unprofessional conduct.
  • Advised clients in regulatory matters including conducting and responding to investigations and quality assurance activities.
  • Represented clients before the Sports Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada on a pro bono basis.
  • Acted as Commission Counsel at the Long-Term Care Homes Public Inquiry, involved in marshalling evidence at the public hearings relating to the College of Nurses of Ontario and the Office of the Chief Coroner/Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
