Nils Goeteyn  


Executive Summary

​Nils Goeteyn is an associate in our Montréal office. His practice focuses mainly on maritime and transport law, both from a regulatory and litigation perspective. He also practices in the fields of international and environmental law, and has a strong interest in privacy issues. He pleads regularly before both the provincial and federal courts in Québec.

A Belgian jurist, Nils was called to the Québec Bar in 2016, after completing an equivalency program at McGill University and Université de Montréal. He also has a PhD in international law and two master's degrees in Belgian and European law from Ghent University (Belgium).

Nils is fluent in English, French and Dutch.

 BLG’s Annual Maritime Law Seminar was held on December 1, 2017 in Montréal. Topics covered include 'Cybersecurity in the Maritime Industry', 'Autonomous Vessels' and the 'Effect of Canada/EU Free Trade Agreement on the Cabotage Trade'.

 Learn about the limitation of liability in multimodal transportation involving rail and the effect of tariffs. Several cases are reviewed which illustrate how Canadian courts apply the rail limits in the context of other shipping contracts at play.
