Doug Copland is a partner in our Corporate Commercial Group in our Vancouver office. His practice is focused in four areas:

• Advising privately held businesses on a broad range of corporate and commercial matters, including corporate organization, acquisitions and divestitures, and commercial contracts of all types.
• Corporate Governance, with a focus on cooperative associations and similarly constituted entities.
• Information Technology, including the acquisition of computer systems and software and related services.
• Intellectual Property, covering all areas of the creation, protection, exploitation (including licensing and franchising) and enforcement of trademarks, copyrights, patents, trade secrets and other intellectual property rights (excluding the preparation and prosecution of patent applications).

• Represented Agrifoods International Cooperative Ltd. in its acquisitions of Earth’s Own Food Company Inc., Happy Planet Foods and Imperial Juice Company.
• Counsel to the Board of Directors of Mountain Equipment Cooperative with respect to cooperative governance and rules.
• Counsel to Best Buy Canada Ltd. on corporate, commercial, regulatory and other matters.
• Counsel to Central 1 Credit Union in connection with its acquisition of a software system and services from Murex North America.
• Counsel to numerous privately held businesses, ranging from small to large, with respect to corporate organization and reorganization, acquisitions and divestitures, supply contracts, distribution and dealer contracts, customer contracts, and regulatory matters.
• Advising on the intellectual property elements of broader transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financings, licensing, services and other transactions.
• Advising various clients with respect to strategies for protecting, exploiting and enforcing intellectual property rights.
