Executive Summary

Shantela Blaeser is the Director, Professional Resources in our Vancouver Office. She works collaboratively with firm leaders to align business and talent strategies on regional and national platforms, and works with our Legal Professionals to support the advancement of their careers.

Shantela began her legal career at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP as a summer student in 2004, progressed through to partnership and was a partner of the firm practicing in the areas of Securities, Capital Markets and Public Companies prior to taking on the Professional Resources role. Shantela believes in the importance of supporting the growth of the firm and coordinates programs relating to performance management, compensation, professional development and lateral lawyer recruitment.

Shantela is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and Canadian Bar Association.

Representative Work

  • Counsel in a variety of structured product offerings in the mining, oil & gas, alternative energy and real estate sectors (including the Qwest, Maple Leaf and WCSB families of funds), as well as mergers and restructurings of investment funds.
  • Acted as counsel to both issuers and investment bankers in connection with a variety of offerings, and in particular junior to intermediate issuers in the mining industry, including offerings by:
    • Vista Gold Corp.
    • NovaGold Resources Inc.
    • Endeavour Silver Corp.
    • Great Panther Resources Limited
    • Hathor Exploration Limited
    • Tournigan Energy Ltd.
    • Powertech Uranium Corp.
    • Hillsborough Resources Ltd.
    • Inter-Citic Minerals Inc.
  • Acted in connection with the establishment and operation of a variety of private equity funds.
  • Acted as counsel in the reorganization of a publicly traded coal company and the establishment of project joint venture.
  • Acted as counsel to the Special Committee of Far West Mining Ltd. on its $725-million acquisition by Capstone Mining Corp. and Korea Resources Corporation.
  • Acted as counsel to Magma Energy Corp. on its $575-million merger with Plutonic Power Corporation.
  • Acted as counsel to Global Copper Corp. on its acquisition by Teck Cominco Limited and the spin-off of Lumina Copper Corp.
