The Canadian Intellectual Property Office recently announced fee increases, effective January 1, 2004. Fees currently charged in Canada are significantly less than those charged in most other major industrialized jurisdictions. Current government fees have remained unchanged since 1989 for patents, 1985 for trade-marks and industrial designs, and 1997 for copyrights. The new fees, however, will still be less than in most other jurisdictions.
