Toronto (April 25, 2014) — Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG) LLP is pleased to announce the election of André J. Barette to The International Academy of Estate and Trust Law.

“André’s selection by the members of the Academy is recognition of his leadership in the areas of wealth management and estates and trusts, and underscores the high regard his peers have for him,” said Sean Weir, BLG’s national managing partner and CEO. “This reflects his legal expertise and the high calibre of his work on behalf of our clients.”

Members of the Academy, who practise estate and trust law in 41 countries, have achieved a reputation for expertise in the areas of cross-border and international law. All Academicians must have practised in the Academy's areas of interest for at least ten years and must have distinguished themselves through lecturing, writing or participation in professional organizations.

Membership to the Academy is by invitation only and is highly selective. There are 290 Academicians worldwide representing multiple jurisdictions, both common law and civil law and, of this number, five are from Québec, including André and Marilyn Piccini Roy. André’s nomination received unanimous support from the Canada Regional Committee, and was approved by the Executive Council of the Academy on April 4.

André is a partner in our Wealth Management Group, and specializes in litigation cases related to wealth management, estates and trusts, protective supervision, and elder law. BLG’s Wealth Management Group offers you a full range of services to help you implement plans for your protection and the protection of dependent relatives in the event of death or incapacity. We offer you expertise in advising family-owned businesses on business succession, taking into account relevant taxation issues and other associated costs.
