Ottawa (April 23, 2014) — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) will host a special performance by the Nunavut Sivuniksavut group for members of the foreign diplomatic community in Ottawa on April 24, 2014.

"This is a chance for foreign representatives to see the artistry and culture of Northern Canada. For many it will be a once in a lifetime experience and for others it will ignite an interest in visiting and partnering with the Inuit," said Gar Knutson, counsel with BLG’s Government Relations Group. "BLG is proud to support the Nunavut Sivunkisavut group. More than a cultural organization – their main purpose is to help Inuit students pursue post-secondary education in order to return to Nunavut and contribute to growing the economy."

Nunavut Sivuniksavut is a unique eight-month college program based in Ottawa. Founded in 1985, it is for Inuit youth from Nunavut who want to get ready for the educational, training, and career opportunities that are being created by the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement (NLCA) and the Government of Nunavut. All of its courses are accredited by Algonquin College in Ottawa.

BLG is proud to partner with the Nunavut Sivuniksavu group as part of the Firm’s focus on Canada’s North, which includes a commitment to the community. BLG’s Team North® has a thorough understanding of the rapid pace of socio-political, commercial and environmental developments in Northern Canada. Team North® offers expertise from multiple practice areas and industries, across Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and the upper regions of many provinces.
