Calgary (February 24, 2014) — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is pleased to announce that Barrie Pomerance, Neal Wang, and Edward Wooldridge have joined the Calgary office. Edward and Neal have joined BLG’s Banking and Financial Services Group and Barrie has joined the Commercial Real Estate Group.

An established and well regarded commercial real estate lawyer, Barrie acts for Brokers, Agents, Vendors, Purchasers, Landlords and Tenants with respect to the purchase, sale, financing and leasing of commercial properties. Barrie has represented clients with local, national and international concerns who are involved in all areas of real estate. He is routinely called upon to advise clients on appropriate options and strategies having regard to the current state of the law and changing market conditions. A graduate of the University of British Columbia where he obtained his LL.B. in 1977, Barrie also received a B.A. from the University of Calgary in 1974. Called to the Alberta bar in 1978, Barrie has been a guest lecturer at the University of Calgary, both in the Faculties of Law and Continuing Education. Prior to joining BLG, Barrie was counsel with the Calgary office of another major Canadian firm.

Neal’s practice focuses principally on lending and secured finance transactions in Western Canada. He has extensive experience representing and advising major corporate borrowers, as well as institutional and private lenders at all market levels, including Canadian chartered banks, significant U.S. financial institutions and other foreign lenders. Neal provides advice in relation to a full range of financial products including syndicated and non-syndicated lending, acquisition financing, asset-based lending, derivative products and project finance. He has structured and negotiated credit facilities across a variety of market sectors including mining, forestry, energy, technology, sports and entertainment, restaurant, casino and gaming, and retail. Neal has a specialty in cross-border lending. A graduate of York University (Osgoode Hall Law School) where he obtained his LL.B. in 1998, Neal also received his B.A. from the University of British Columbia in 1994. Neal was called to the British Columbia bar in 1999 and the Alberta bar in 2013. Prior to joining BLG, Neal was counsel with the Calgary office of another major Canadian firm.

Edward has extensive experience in advising lenders and borrowers of all types on a wide array of financing transactions including syndicated bank financings, asset-based lending financings, cross-border and other international financings, acquisition financings, equipment/inventory financings and bond financings. Edward also regularly advises banks, receivers, trustees and creditors on various priorities and other workout and restructuring issues. A graduate of the University of Calgary where he obtained his LL.B. in 1998, Edward also received his B.Comm. in finance and economics from the University of Western Ontario in 1991. Edward was called to the Alberta bar in 1999. Having previously practiced at BLG, Edward was most recently a partner with the Calgary office of another major Canadian firm.
