Toronto (December 11, 2013) — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) extends its congratulations to the Toronto Financial Services Agency (TFSA) and the Dubai International Financial Centre Authority (DIFCA) for signing a unique memorandum of understanding (MOU) that encourages both parties to foster a business to business collaboration in their respective financial centres.

“This agreement signifies a tremendous step forward in strengthening the ties between the two financial centres,” said Jeffrey Graham, BLG partner, TFSA board member and co-chair of the TFSA Islamic Finance Working Group.  “Canada is well known for its strong financial regulatory regime in banking and financial institutions.  Similarly we are seeking the best practices in the Islamic financial sector to facilitate the growth of Islamic banks in Canada.”

Under the new agreement, TFSA and DIFCA will explore avenues to jointly promote the importance of the Toronto and Dubai financial services sectors offerings internationally.  The MOU was signed on December 8th in Dubai.
