Toronto (August 6, 2013) — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is pleased to announce that renowned electronic discovery lawyer, Martin Felsky, will be joining BLG as National E-Discovery Counsel, effective August 12, 2013, to lead the Firm’s e-discovery and litigation support services.

Martin is highly regarded for providing his legal and business expertise to large corporations, the judiciary and government organizations across Canada on matters of information governance, litigation preparedness, and electronic discovery.  In this new role, Martin will be responsible for advising the Firm and its clients on e-discovery and litigation readiness planning to ensure that the Firm’s clients receive the highest quality and most efficient litigation support services.

“The complexity and inherent costs associated with e-discovery are a substantial challenge for any litigation practice,” said Sean Weir, national managing partner.  “We are delighted to welcome Martin to this new role at BLG to lead our e-discovery and litigation support services.”

As BLG’s National E-Discovery Counsel, Martin will provide leadership, supervision and coordination of electronic discovery projects on a national basis.  He will also be responsible for promoting best practices for e-discovery within the Firm, ensuring BLG is taking full advantage of technological capabilities to support e-discovery and providing education and training to BLG clients on e-discovery.

“It is important to be able to demonstrate to clients that we have dedicated e-discovery capabilities that are best in class and respond to the needs of our clients,” said Jeff Vallis, national litigation department leader.  “Martin brings extraordinary experience to a team that is already exceptionally strong, which will serve BLG’s clients well.”

A lawyer, entrepreneur and educator, Martin has over two decades of experience working with major Canadian and US law firms on complex e-discovery issues.  Prior to joining the Firm, Martin worked as a consultant in electronic discovery and litigation readiness planning and co-founded Commonwealth Legal, Canada’s first national litigation support and e-discovery company.

A sought-after expert on litigation support and e-discovery issues, Martin is the author of the ground-breaking Canadian Judicial Council report, Blueprint for the Security of Judicial Information, 3rd Edition, which has been implemented in courts across Canada.  Martin is also a Charter Member and active participant in the Sedona Conference Working Group which developed the Sedona Canada Ediscovery Principles – a set of principles which provide practical advice and best practices on how to handle electronic discoveries.
