Alan L. Ross to take leave of absence from BLG to join the International and Intergovernmental Relations Department of the Government of Alberta

Calgary (February 1, 2013) — The Partners of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) are proud to announce that Alan L. Ross, partner in the Calgary Office of BLG, has been appointed Alberta’s Representative in Ottawa, effective today. In this position, Alan will play an important role in developing and advancing Alberta’s strategic and economic interests at a national level.

As Alberta’s Representative in Ottawa, Alan will play a critical role with strengthening inter-governmental relations and promoting Alberta’s strategies and policies on energy development, energy transmission including pipelines, environmental protection, agriculture, trade, investment and economic diversification within the context of relevant federal government policies and initiatives. During his appointment, Alan will be taking a leave of absence from BLG.

A leading energy law lawyer, Alan has extensive experience in significant Alberta and Canadian industries including oil sands, conventional and unconventional oil and gas, interprovincial pipelines, energy generation and energy transmission. He has been consistently recognized as a leader in his field by national and international legal ranking publications. In 2010, he was the recipient of the 2010 Lexpert Rising Stars Award for Leading Lawyers under 40.

Alan was called to the Ontario Bar in 1996, the Law Society of England and Wales in 1999, the Alberta Bar in 2002 and the New York Bar in 2003. Alan obtained his Juris Doctor from Dalhousie University in 1994. Alan also obtained a Masters in Business Administration from Oxford University in 2001. Alan has written and presented extensively on policy and legal matters of interest to all Canadians.
