Calgary (January 15, 2012) — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is proud to announce that Douglas Mitchell, Q.C.,  national co-chair of the Firm, has been appointed Chair of the Board of Directors for ParticipACTION, the national voice of physical activity and sport participation in Canada.

Douglas practises corporate and commercial law as well as commercial real estate and sports law at BLG. He has been a board member with ParticipACTION since 2006 and an active member of many other community organizations, including his current role as co-chair of the Global Business Forum in Banff, Alberta. Douglas serves as Chairman of the annual BLG Awards honouring Canadian university athletes, is Chair of Legacy Sports Inc. (owner of the CFL Calgary Stampeder Football Club), and a member of the CFL Board of Governors.

Douglas’ professional and community-based achievements have been recognized over the years with the appointment to the Order of Canada in 2004 and the Alberta Order of Excellence in 2007. Douglas was also named one of the 50 Greatest Albertans of the past 100 years by Alberta Venture Magazine, one of Calgary’s 12 Most Influential People by the Calgary Herald, and one of the Globe and Mail’s Power 50 in Canadian Sports for 2010 and 2011.
