Steve Suarez brings wealth of transactional experience in many sectors including mining to the Firm

TORONTO (August 22, 2011) – Steve Suarez has joined the Toronto office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) as a partner, bringing over 20 years of tax law experience to the Firm. Steve practises exclusively in the area of income tax law with a particular focus on the natural resources sector, and has advised clients on many of Canada’s largest and most complex business transactions.

As part of his income tax practice, Steve has extensive experience acting in mergers and acquisitions, inbound investments, corporate restructuring, and audit management and tax dispute resolution. He has represented clients in the mining, financial services, technology and media industries, among others.

Steve is internationally recognized as a leading Canadian tax practitioner by the 2011 edition of Chambers Global – The World's Leading Lawyers for Business, and International Tax Review’s World Tax 2011: The comprehensive guide to the world's leading tax firms. He is a frequent writer and speaker on tax issues, and is actively involved in a number of professional organizations. He is a councillor of the Canadian Branch of the International Fiscal Association, and co-chair of the Toronto Centre Canada Revenue Agency & Tax Professionals Consultation Group. He is a former chair of the Taxation Section of the Ontario Bar Association, and is a member of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation.

Steve obtained an MBA (Gold Medallist) from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario and a JD from the University of Toronto Law School. He was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1990, admitted to the Bar in New York in 1993 and added to the Roll of Solicitors in England & Wales in 1994.
