TORONTO (June 1, 2011) - Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is pleased to announce that Jay Lefton, a prominent business lawyer, has joined the firm as a partner in its Toronto office. Jay is a seasoned practitioner who has more than 25 years of experience advising public and private companies on M&A, corporate and securities law, with a particular focus on technology and life sciences.

Prior to joining BLG, Jay was a partner with another full-service Canadian law firm. Among his many responsibilities throughout his career, Jay has represented and advised clients on the commercialization of their discoveries and guided acquirers and boards of directors through transaction negotiations and unsolicited takeover bids.

In 2011, Jay was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in Canada® and recognized in the International Who's Who of Mergers & Acquisitions Lawyers and the Lexpert®/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada. He is also on the Board of Governors and the Research and Commercialization Committee of Toronto's Mount Sinai Hospital. He has also been a member of  the Ontario Securities Commission's Securities Advisory Committee assisting on various matters, including legislative and policy initiatives.. He has been an adjunct faculty member at Osgoode Hall Law School and has also instructed at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. He is also an active member of the Mergers & Acquisitions Committee of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section.
