Vancouver (September 19, 2006) — The Honourable Edward Charles Chiasson, QC, a partner at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP's (BLG) Vancouver office, has been appointed to the British Columbia Court of Appeal. This appointment is a tribute to Ed’s abilities and reflects his national and international reputation as pre-eminent counsel.

Ed played a vital role in building the Vancouver office's litigation practice in several different areas, including labour, aboriginal and construction law, before focusing his practice on international commercial arbitration. He has served as a dedicated and inspiring teacher, mentor and role model to many of our partners and associates.

Ed received a Bachelor of Laws in 1966 from the University of British Columbia and was admitted to the Bar of British Columbia in 1967. He is a member of the Hong Kong Arbitrators Institute, the Advisory Committee to the Federal Department of Justice on Private International Law and a chartered arbitrator of the Canadian Institute of Arbitrators. Ed has been active in academic life as an adjunct professor at the University of British Columbia and the Hunter Professor of Arbitration and Dispute Resolution at City University, Hong Kong. He is active in the community and was Chair of the Board of Directors of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and is a director of the Bowen Island Community Foundation.
