Richard Bennett brings both depth and breadth of experience to Vancouver tax practice

TORONTO (August 11, 2008) – Richard Bennett, a well-known and respected tax lawyer with more than 20 years of experience, has joined the Vancouver office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG).

With Mr. Bennett’s significant experience in domestic and international corporate income taxation and income tax litigation, BLG’s dynamic tax practice now has the necessary expertise to support the firm’s strong Securities and Capital Markets and Corporate/Commercial groups and their clients fully.

'I am delighted to announce that we are successfully building on the recent growth of our tax capabilities in Vancouver with the addition of Rick Bennett,' said Douglas Powrie, partner and head of BLG’s regional tax practice. 'Rick is an extremely well-respected lawyer with a wealth of knowledge, skill and creativity that make him a top service provider and valuable contributor on our team.'

Mr. Bennett also regularly represents clients in tax disputes with the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, and has appeared as counsel in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, British Columbia Court of Appeal, Tax Court of Canada and Federal Court of Appeal.

'I’m excited to join BLG and provide our Vancouver and national tax clients with a unique level of service, offering both litigation and tax planning experience,' said Mr. Bennett. 'BLG has attracted a considerable caseload in this rapidly developing area and I look forward to working with Doug Powrie and the team as we continue to attract new talent and clients.'
