Montréal (August 17, 2016) — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) announces with deep sadness the passing of P. André Gervais, Q.C. on Sunday, August 14. André Gervais was a partner at the Montréal office of BLG until 2008. His name has been one of the firm’s patronyms for more than 30 years. He played a key role in the successful merger of McMaster Gervais in 2000 to form Borden Ladner Gervais.

André Gervais has had a distinguished career in law. He was admitted to the Québec Bar in 1958 and was a graduate of the Université de Sherbrooke Faculty of Law. André Gervais specialized in alternative dispute resolution, more particularly in commercial arbitration and mediation. His expertise included commercial, corporate and securities law.

André Gervais was president and member of the Executive Committee of the Canadian Bar Association. He was also a former member of the Quebec Bar, the Québec National and International Commercial Arbitration Centre and the Institut d’arbitrage et de médiation du Québec (affiliated with the Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Canada). He was also a director or an officer of many organisations, including Nesbitt Thomson Inc., Hilton Canada Inc., Logistec Corporation, Marks & Spencer Canada Inc., the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation.

André will be remembered as a warm and jovial person. It was a privilege to work with him professionally and a pleasure to know him personally. Our sincere condolences and thoughts go out to André’s family and friends in these very difficult times.
