Montréal (July 18, 2016) — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is pleased to announce that Alexander De Zordo, Danny Kaufer and Jacques Laurent have been awarded the Advocatus Emeritus distinction.

By so doing, the Barreau du Québec is honouring three of its members who have distinguished themselves by achieving excellence in their professional careers, as well as by their outstanding contribution to the profession and their inspiring social commitment to their communities.

"This recognition attests to the excellence shown by Alex, Danny and Jacques, not only in their work, but also in their different professional and personal activities," said John G. Murphy, BLG's Regional Managing Partner. "Their contribution casts a remarkably favorable light on the legal profession as a whole."

Alex De Zordo, in a brilliant career in commercial litigation, has always demonstrated a real commitment to access to justice and pro bono service, both within the Firm and in the community at large, notably in representing Réjean Hinse before the Supreme Court of Canada. He also participated in setting up Pro Bono Québec and was its president for four years. As a seasoned pleader, he represented the Royal Bank of Canada and RBC Dominion Securities before the courts in the complex lawsuits that attracted extensive media coverage, arising out of the financial fraud perpetrated by Earl Jones. Alex is also a member of BLG's National Council.

The reputation of Danny Kaufer in labour and employment law extends well beyond the borders of Québec and Canada, and his superior ability has been recognized by both his own clients and by counsel representing opposite parties. Danny is a gifted orator who frequently speaks at activities sponsored by the Labour and Employment Law Section of the American Bar Association.

Throughout his prolific career in business and corporate law, Jacques Laurent has earned a reputation as a loyal partner of his clients and built a relationship of trust reflected in the numerous mandates entrusted to him on the boards of directors of some of the largest public and private companies and many major cultural institutions.

Alex, Danny and Jacques will thus be joining the ranks of other proud recipients of the Advocatus Emeritus distinction, including, among others, BLG's own Alex K. Paterson (2010), Guy J. Pratte (2012) and Marie Audren (2013).
