Toronto (May 20, 2016) — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is pleased to announce that it has received two awards for excellence in pro bono service from Pro Bono Ontario (PBO):

  • Excellence in Services to Self-Represented Litigants — Recognized the long-standing participation of BLG's Toronto and Ottawa offices in PBO's Law Help Program. In Toronto, a group of 20 to 25 BLG lawyers volunteer at the Superior Court every Friday, and at the Small Claims Court every second Tuesday to advise (and in some cases appear on behalf of) unrepresented litigants. In Ottawa, a group of 15 to 20 BLG lawyers volunteer at the Law Help Centre every second Wednesday.
  • Excellence in Services to Children and Youth — Recognized BLG's Ottawa office for its volunteer legal assistance to patients and their families at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

BLG encourages each of its lawyers to engage in pro bono work, and has a formal pro bono policy that reflects the firm's commitment to help those in our communities who would otherwise be unable to obtain access to justice or legal services.

The PBO Awards honour the pro bono contributions of lawyers, law firms, legal departments, law associations and governments who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to access to justice.
