Executive Summary

Gail Silver is a registered Canadian and U.S. patent agent in our Intellectual Property Group in our Ottawa office. She specializes in chemical, pharmaceutical, medical polymer, and biotechnology patents. Her work involves drafting patents and providing validity and infringement opinions. She prosecutes patent applications before both the Canadian and U.S. Patent Offices on behalf of Canadian and international clients.

Gail’s doctoral work focused on the interaction of inorganic molecules with DNA, and in 1996 she completed post-doctoral studies in triplex DNA formations at the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris.

She is multilingual, speaking English, French, German, and Spanish.

Representative Work

  • Presented successful verbal arguments for the patentability of using a multi-million-dollar drug before the Canadian Patent Office, 2012.
  • Reviewed medical device patent to determine its enforceability against an alleged infringer, 2013.
  • Drafted a patent on using brown fat cells to fight obesity, 2012.
