Executive Summary

​Jeremy Bolger is Senior Counsel in our Montréal office practicing in the areas of maritime law and general transportation law. His practice includes litigation, arbitration, mediation and advice with respect to commercial matters.

He serves a broad client base, including terminal operators, stevedores, financial institutions, freight forwarders, shippers, road carriers, ship owners and managers, cargo interests, warehousemen, charterers and operators, as well as their respective agents and underwriters, providing advice with respect to commercial, administrative, regulatory and litigation matters.  He has appeared before all levels of Québec Provincial and Federal courts, as well as administrative tribunals. Jeremy is recognized as a leading lawyer in Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers for Business (Shipping), The Best Lawyers in Canada (Maritime Law), Who's Who Legal: Canada (Shipping & Maritime), and The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory; he was named "Maritime Lawyer of the Year 2010" by Best Lawyers.

Jeremy is a past president of the Canadian Maritime Law Association, past chair of the Québec Maritime Law Subsection of the Canadian Bar Association, a Titulary Member of Comité Maritime International and a member of several other shipping industry associations.  He was Vice-Chair of the Board and member of the Executive Committee of the Montréal Port Authority (2005-08) and serves as an advisor to and a director of several corporations.

  • Defence of shipowner for $10 million claim for dock damage
  • Assertion of claim for $60 million for professional negligence
  • Defence of shipowner with respect to $1.5 million claim for personal injuries suffered by stevedore
  • Successful defence of marine insurer relating to denial of coverage for total loss of vessel
  • Successful claim by shipowner for $850,000 in damages to vessel arising from unsafe berth
  • Successful defence of shipowner in respect of $2 million claim by crew member for personal injuries
  • Successful defence of $500,000 claim against shipowner by charterers for alleged breach of time charter party
