Ottawa (June 17, 2016) — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mandy Aylen as a Prothonotary in the Federal Court, effective today. Mandy will join Prothonotary Tabib as one of the two Prothonotaries at the Ottawa Principal Office.

Mandy was the Regional Co-Chair of BLG's International Trade and Arbitration Group, and Regional Chair of the Business Immigration Group. Her practice focused on public procurement law and government contracting, trade cases, international and domestic commercial arbitrations (as arbitrator and counsel), commercial litigation, business immigration, and administrative law with an emphasis on Access to Information Act litigation.

Mandy has made appearances as counsel in the Supreme Court of Canada, Federal Court of Appeal, Federal Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Superior Court of Justice and the Canadian International Trade Tribunal.

Prothonotaries are full judicial officers appointed under the Federal Courts Act and exercise many of the powers and functions of Federal Court judges. Their authority includes mediation, case management, practice motions (including those that may result in a final disposition of the case, regardless of the amount in issue), as well as trials of actions in which up to $50,000 is claimed.
