Welcome to the fourth edition of the BLG Alumni Newsletter. This year has been a busy one so far with much to celebrate, and has highlighted the important role that our alumni play in the success of the Firm.

For example, earlier this year our Montréal office celebrated the 190th anniversary of its foundation. In 1823, William Badgley founded a firm that would later become McMaster Gervais, one of the five firms that merged in 2000 to become Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. We owe this long period of success to our clients, who continue to support us, and to our professionals and staff, both past and present, who have provided, and continue to provide, our clients with the highest levels of professional and service excellence.

Continuing with the theme of service excellence, I would like to highlight that BTI Consulting Group named BLG the top Canadian law firm for client service in their recent “BTI Client Service A-Team 2013” report.

This commitment to service was recently exemplified by our colleagues Daniel Urbas and Amélie Gouin. Daniel and Amélie provided pro bono support to the family of murder victim Lin Jun during the preliminary hearing of Luka Magnotta, the individual accused in Lin Jun’s death. I am proud of our pro bono program and the great work our lawyers do to improve access to justice for those in need.

To better serve our clients and friends, we launched our new BLG website (BLG.com) in April. Our redesigned site offers unprecedented functionality for mobile access, and adapts automatically to the screen size of any desktop computer, laptop, mobile smart phone or tablet device.

In addition, we made it easier for you to connect with us by placing the Alumni section in the top level navigation of our site. Now, no matter what page you land on within our site, you can quickly and easily access alumni information through this link.

Finally, I would like to thank those of you who attended our first National Alumni Reception, which was held in each of our offices across Canada. The event was a great success and we hope that you enjoyed reconnecting with us and your former colleagues.

Whether you are looking to catch up with other BLG alumni, keep up to date on future events at BLG, or are looking for legal counsel in your new endeavours, please keep in touch. You can always reach me directly at sweir@blg.com, or you can reach our alumni committee at alumni@blg.com.

Sincerely,

Sean Weir
