Canadian M&A activity rebounded somewhat in 2010 from the depressed levels of 2009. As the Can$ rose in value (as at 1 March 2011, the Can$ was at approximate parity with the US$), due to the perceived strength of the Canadian financial system following the financial crisis of 2008 and the continued strength of commodity prices, which generally tends to favour the Can$, Canadian companies have been buying abroad.
