On November 23, 2001, the Council of Europe (CoE) Convention on Cybercrime was opened for signature. So far, it has been signed by over 30 countries, including Canada and the United States. The Convention is the first international treaty on crimes committed via the Internet and other computer networks. The stated purpose of the Convention is to pursue a common policy aimed at combating cybercrime through appropriate legislation and international co-operation.
